Question by ???: Is it safe to visit Detroit for a concert?
We’d be going to “The Joe” arena. I’m from Chicago, lived in wrigleyville for half my life before moving to the suburbs and I’m used to the city life, but I have heard many bad things about Detroit as far as murder, assault, etc and quite frankly it scares me to even know I’m going into Detroit! I don’t know if it’s simply that Detroit is seen as a warzone to the outside or if it actually is like that. We wouldn’t be staying/sleeping in Detroit because we have family about two hours away and we’d rather stay with family. I’d appreciate any insight on how to stay safe/what it’s like in Detroit. Thank you!

You’ll be fine. The area around Joe Lewis Arena ,Creek town and the River walk are fine. Although Detroit is one most dangerous city in the US . There are parts of the city that are fine. It’s the run down neighborhoods that are filled drugs, poverty and abandon houses that creates the crime. Just be aware of your surroundings, don’t walk alone, don’t wonder off the beaten path. Don’t flash money or Jewelry. Don’t talk to strangers and Don’t go into any Neighborhoods.
P.S make sure you purchase your gas, snacks and drinks before you get into the city that cuts down any unnecessary stops in the city.
